Exactly 1 year ago today I walked into Piercing Crossfit absolutely terrified. I knew I needed to do something drastic to change my body and relieve some stress. After watching the last 10 minutes of that 530pm class, I thought about slowly backing out the door hoping that no one saw me. I made myself promise to stay and at least try it. I promised myself I was going to go to 10 classes and if I hated it, I wouldn’t go back. I was out of shape, overweight, exhausted and hated the way I looked. I hated myself for letting it get to that point. Never would I have thought that I would fall in love with Crossfit and the people there. Walking in that day was one of the best decisions I have ever made. I started setting goals, then watching myself reach them so quickly that I had to keep setting bigger goals. I remember watching people do things there that I thought “man, I’ll never be at that level”. But over the last year I have got to a level I never dreamed I could ever reach. My goals just keep getting bigger and bigger. With the help of my entire Crossfit family, I know I will reach them. I really put my heart into that place and the workouts. It’s the place I go to clear my head and forget all the worries of the world. I feel the best I’ve ever felt. I’m literally in the best shape of my life. I’ve lost 36 pounds and countless inches. I started with a goal of being “skinny” again. I gave that goal up shortly after starting. I’d rather be strong and fit. Brandon Pierce I am forever grateful for your help, encouragement and wisdom. But most of all on, this Father's Day, I feel like I'm setting a better example as a dad and husband. I don't usually share things like this because I don't believe in self-promotion, but maybe someone I know could benefit from this post. I'm proud to say I'm down 32 pounds in 6 months and back to being strong and in the best shape in several years. Thank you Brandon Pierce for the great coaching and extra push. Also a big thanks to all the people at Piercing Crossfit that have always supported me (and each other). Some of the best friends I've made anywhere! Now to push to lose the last 20+ lbs! (I was also embarrassed to share the before pic because I didn't really realize how big I had gotten! You can't save your face and your ass at the same time tho!)

This week marks my one year anniversary at Piercing CrossFit. I have gained so much this year because of my decision to walk through this door. I am a stronger person. Not only in body, but in mind as well. If you would have told me a year ago I would compete in the Open, Finish Murph, or even throw a 50lb ball over my shoulder, I would have laughed at you. I have gained confidence in myself and my abilities. I have gained not only a coach in Brandon Pierce but a true friend. He pushes me, calls me out when I need it & congratulates me when I excel. I have gained some of the best friends a person could ask for: a community that truly cares for each other. We come together in shared sweat, blood & pain. We high five & we help each other out. We come together outside the gym for fun times too. I love my gym community! It has been one of the best decisions I and my family have made. If you want to make a change for the better in your life, I truly encourage you to give Crossfit a try.

After a full year, slowly but surely I've made progress. Not only do I feel better about myself but I now know what my strengths are, and I can't wait to continue to test my limits! Kelli has made huge strides as a Piercing CrossFit member. She's now strong. Really strong. She's also fitter and faster than ever before. Her workout numbers confirm that. She used to put in tons of cardio and wanted to be skinny. That only left her skinny fat and chasing a body she couldn't get without weights. When she got strong and added in functional movements performed at high intensity her body changed for the better. And we apparently offer free tanning.

"While training at Piercing CrossFit I saw huge improvements in many different areas. When I got to PC I thought I knew how to lift but I really didn't. My technique needed a lot of work. Within a few weeks I had noticed a huge difference not only in my technique but also in how much weight I was lifting. When I started training with Brandon in November 2012 I could maybe bench 300 on a good day. I squatted 385 and deadlifted 480. I was 305 lbs, out of shape, slow, and couldn't do a single pull up. Now in June 2013 I am benching 380, squatting 500, deadlifting 550. I did all of that while losing 30 lbs, getting faster, and getting in much better shape. I can even do a few pull ups now. Every goal I set for myself I either achieved or surpassed.
I also didnt know where I was going to play football next year when I started. Brandon was really helpful with advice in the recruiting aspect as well as the training aspect. After all this hard work I'm now getting ready to head to WVU as an invited walk on. I would definitely recommend to anyone who is looking to play a sport at the college level or just looking to transform their body to train at Piercing CrossFit.
